How long does it take for solar heating to heat the pool?
That’s a great question but first, congratulations, if you’re thinking about going solar for your pool heating.
I believe you’re making a great choice because solar pool heating is environmentally friendly, efficient, and easy to maintain.
But a question I get asked a lot is, how long will it take to warm the pool?
I’ll be up front with you. That’s a difficult question to answer because there are a lot of variables.
However, in this post, I’ll do my best to explain them.
The speed of solar pool heating
My first question is, are you planning to use a pool cover?
A pool cover will keep most of the heat in your pool and you’ll be able to bring the water up to your ideal temperature much faster.
And if it’s a solar cover, then even better because that will absorb the sun’s rays and add to the heat of your pool.
My second question is, how hot is the day in question?
Solar pool heating relies on the warmth of the sun to heat the collectors and, if it’s not the warmest day, you may struggle to reach your desired temperature.
On those days, of course, you may not actually want to swim! Although, my mission is to help you swim more, right throughout the year.
And my third question relates to the size of your solar pool heating system.
Recommendations on the solar collector area vary, with some companies suggesting you go with as little as 80% of your pool’s surface area. At Adelaide Pool Heating, we recommend you at least match each square metre of your pool’s surface area with the same coverage on your roof. That will ensure your pool heats up as quickly as possible.
Finally, bear in mind that not all solar pool heating is created equal. While solar systems may vary, the principal remains the same.
The amount of heat absorbed and the subsequent increase in pool temperature depends on the system design, size of collector, and the type of control system used.
Adelaide Pool Heating’s innovative Heatseeker range, which includes the industry-leading Heatseeker Plus and the multiple-award-winning Heatseeker UniPanel, can raise the temperature of your pool by approximately 10 degrees C and extend your swimming season by six to eight months of the year.
